Types Of Flowers In Australia

Flowers go by names such as blooms or blossoms, commonly or angiosperms, scientifically. There are so many different types of flowers but most people tend to know only a few types such as; rose flower, carnations and tulips. However, there are so many species, each with its own unique qualities and symbolism. It is therefore important to do a little research on flowers so you can always buy flowers that send the right message to the recipient.

First, let’s delve into a little flower history. Gerbera daisies, best known for their beautifully bright and bold colors originated from Africa. They have made their way all over the world and are usually a common feature in bright flower bouquets.  Lilies owe their origin to the Far East and are believed to be one of the oldest flowers ever known next to tulips which have been around since 500BC. Tulips were highly valued especially in the seventeenth century; a bulb of a tulip was worth more than an equivalent amount of gold, this is because tulips were believed to give immortality and eternal love.

Even back in the day, flowers were highly valued and were used on a daily basis. The first known flower pickers were Egyptian soldiers from 3500 years ago. They discovered the medicinal properties of some flowers and used them to heal and sooth their wounds. Flowers were also used for religious purposes and of course as a result of their aesthetic appeal, for decorative purposes.

Today, Flowers are not just used for decorative purposes; they have a myriad of uses like: hemp is used to make clothes courtesy of its fibrous property; the rose is used in making toiletries, courtesy of its wonderful scent; the rosebay willow is used to make cooking flour, courtesy of its sweetness; juice from the bluebell flower is used to make binder for books, courtesy of its sticky property, to name but a few.

However, the most common use of flowers is as a gift. Sometimes we are stranded when trying to get gifts for our friends and family because we need them to be personal enough or not too personal when we are newly dating for instance. Flowers have the ability to bridge the gap between ‘too personal and not personal enough.’ However before rushing out the door or going online to buy flowers, you need to learn a bit more about flowers so that you pick the ultimate bouquet for the specific occasion.

All flowers are unique and represent certain emotions. For example, a red rose signifies romance; tulips signify eternal love and so on and so forth. Be it a graduation, prom, birthday, wedding, valentine’s day, promotion, funeral or any other occasion you may have, there is always a perfect bouquet for the occasion. Go to your nearest or best vendor and tell them what you need the flowers for and you will have given the best and most thoughtful gift as flowers bring untold joy and brightness into our otherwise dull lives.
